A Friends First Day School was set up soon after the Allowed Meeting was formalised in New Earswick in 1917 and had 34 members in 1918, rising to 57 in 1929. Week-end lecture schools were held, addressed by such speakers as J Edward Hodgkin and Edward Grubb, and study circles were held from 1918/19. The school was active until at least 1969.
